All about UGC NET Exam
The UGC NET exam (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) is a national level exam conducted in India by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The exam is conducted twice a year to determine the eligibility of candidates for the post of Assistant Professor and/or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. The eligibility criteria for UGC NET exam are as follows:
- Educational Qualification:
- For Assistant Professor: A candidate must have a master’s degree or equivalent in the relevant subject from a recognized university with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved category candidates). Candidates who are appearing in the final year of their qualifying exam can also apply.
- For Junior Research Fellowship: A candidate must have a master’s degree or equivalent in the relevant subject from a recognized university with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved category candidates). Candidates who are appearing in the final year of their qualifying exam can also apply.
For Junior Research Fellowship, the age of the candidate should not be more than 30 years as on the date of the exam. There is no age limit for Assistant Professor.
The candidate must be a citizen of India or a subject of Bhutan/Nepal/Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

The format of the UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) exam consists of two papers: Paper I and Paper II.
