Company Secretary is a course that trains scholars to handle the legal aspects of an establishment including returns and record keeping. It has three levels. As a Company Secretary, you are directly involved in the strategy, decision-making, and non-supervision activities of a company.

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) trains and regulates Company secretaries in India under the Company Secretary Act, of 1980. ICSI has more than 65,000 members and around 2,50,000 students. A postgraduate degree is equivalent to a Company Secretary degree under the new guidelines of the UGC. 

What is a Company Secretary Course?

CS Course is mainly designed for students coming from the commerce field but students coming from any stream can choose this as a course. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India Conducts the Company Secretary exam. The course is available via distance knowledge, and with the setup of this course,this profession came into existence.

Aspirants who are seeking admission in this program, need to crack the CSEET or Company Secretary Executive Entrance test. This is a National Level Test. To become a Company Secretary a candidate has to pass the three different levels of the CS Exam and the management training.

How to become a Company Secretary? 

Candidates who want to become a Company Secretary need to give the CSEET Exam. 12 passed students are eligible to give this exam.There are three levels of this exam foundation course, executive course, and professional course. 

It is important that aspirants should first enroll in the foundation course, which is the first level of the CS exam. After passing, scholars have to register themselves for the Executive course, and then after qualifying that they have to register for the Professional program. There is a final operation training round after completing the Professional level. After completing this the candidates will officially become the CS.

  • CS Foundation:

Students are taught a variety of skills in the CS foundation course, including entrepreneurship, management, the business world, ethics, accounting, and economics. Students can check out the CS Foundation Course Books by Shuchita Prakashan for the best guidance.

Eligibility:

  • Candidates should have passed their 12th standard in order to make themselves enroll in the CS Foundation program.
  • Candidates must have at most 50% overall grades in their 12th standard. 

Duration: 

The CS foundation course is of 8 months.

  • CS Executive:

The CS executive course covers a variety of topics, mostly those related to law. These are

Eligibility:

  • Except for a few exempted categories, all student categories must pass the CSEET Exam in order to register for the Executive Program.
  • For the CSEET, candidates must have completed Class 12.
  • Additionally, the candidates' age limit should be higher than 17.

Duration: 

The CS Executive Course lasts for 9 months.

  • CS Professional Course:

This training is the most pursued among all, which the students can get into after coming through the CS training program before the 15 months of training.

Compulsory Computer Training Programme

All the students have to pursue this course to get eligible for the CS Executive Program.

PDP or Professional Development Programme

Candidates have to pursue this training course for a period of 15 months of training.

25 hours

Specialised Agency Training

Students can pursue this course after completing DP or SIP or passing the professional program, and by completing the 15 months of training.

15 days

MSOP or Management Skills Orientation Programme

This training course can be pursued if the student has been partially or fully exempted from training and has registered the documents needed to fulfil the regulation of 1982.

Professional or Management Training

Candidates can pursue this course with the completion of the CS Executive or CS professional program. Students must complete their training with the companies which are registered with the Company Secretary in Practice or the ICSI Institute.

Practical Training

Candidates can only pursue this training course, only if they have completed the CS professional program.Also they are eligible to do this training only if they are exempted from undergoing the 12 months of training under the 1982 companies secretaries regulation.
